Hello Thursday! The work week is almost over!!! I am super excited about this weekends activity we have planned. We are enjoying our downtime before the new wedding season hits.

Recently on Instagram, I ran a poll on if people were interested in me sharing wedding tips. I had an excellent YESSS response. So here I am, today’s blog is on 3 Awesome tips to consider when planning your wedding!!! After documenting over 75 weddings, I am confident in providing you with helpful and useful tips for planning your wedding. I could go on and on with tips, but I’m going to give you guys a few at a time.

Tip #1- The Veil

Ok, I don’t know if you can tell, but I am IN LOVE with veil shots!!! They are dreamy, unique, and did you know they can be used to block unwanted items in the background. So the first question is to have a veil or not to have a veil? If you do not care for veil shots and do not want to wear one that is awesome too. Many of our weddings brides do not have veils. But if you DO! The next question is what size? There are 7-12 different lengths, but I am going to name the seven main ones. Shoulder/ short, elbow, fingertip, waltz/ knee, chapel/ floor, cathedral, and royal length. The chapel/ floor length is the best for all veil shots. Some sizes can only do certain veil shots, but the chapel length can do WONDERS. Next question with beads or without? From my experience, without the beads, just lace/ sheer material flows the best. Sometimes the beads or trim can be heavy which will weigh down and not blow in the wind as well. My ML Brides can verify that. Don’t get me wrong I have done beautiful veil shots with all of our bride’s veils. Maybe you want to wear it just for ceremony and pictures that are awesome too. Most of our brides ditch it after photos. Most of the time we do a mixture of both some with some without. I’m sure most people don’t realize, but they can also be used to block distracting locations. Downtown may have a ton of people walking around. When shooting in downtown spots, you can utilize a location more with a variety of different posing with the veil helping in some. Enjoy these various veil shots we have captured over the years!!!

Tip #2- Professional hair and makeup

If you are doing hair and makeup for your wedding, my best advice is to hire someone professional. I know there are tons of women that can do awesome makeup and hair and figure Hey I should do it myself. Let’s me give you a few reasons why it’s best to hire someone for your wedding day.  First of all, this is your special day. Sit back and enjoy some wine/ water while getting pampered. How often do we have someone to get us ready. How about NEVER!! Not for me at least. So enjoy the moment and soak in the reality that you are getting MARRIED. I have noticed that brides are less stressed when they let someone handle all that for them. More stressed when they have to get their self-ready. Usually, when, you are hiring your beauty team, you schedule a trial run, not always but sometimes. Just to make sure you like the look before the big day. Another awesome idea is to plan your engagement session for the same day as your trial run. Therefore you can feel all fancy at your session as well. I’ve seen brides not happy with their makeup day of the wedding, and there’s nothing you can do. The day of the wedding time is very crucial. These results are usually from no trial run beforehand. Do a trial run. Better safe than sorry right!! TIP- To keep you beauty team happy !!!! Allow them to download images from your wedding for a promo/ advertisement. I always try to get a few great shots of the team so they can have for their marketing. Enjoy these few shots of MUA and hairstylist over the years!!!!!

Tip #3- Cinema should be a priority

Cinema should be at the top of the priority list!!! Let me tell you why. Photography is usually always a priority when it comes to planning your wedding and choosing your vendors. Cinema sometimes is not a priority or has to wait to see if the budget can include it. I just want to be honest for a minute. So much planning, help, stress, tears, and laughter go into planning the best day of your life, and when it is all over what do you have left? The only memory you will be able to see and relive is the portraits and film from your wedding. A video is so different from pictures. You can see the tears fall and hear the cracking in your dad’s voice when he is reading his speech. There is nothing like it. To listen to the laughter in the room while the groom and groomsmen are getting ready is priceless. Some of my favorite moments are when the Pastor introduces you as husband and wife for the first time. Your wedding is one day you can never get back. Cinematography should be just as high on the priority list as photography.
